(More customer reviews)I am a beginner small-batch canner and I needed a canning rack for a regular stainless steel pot to sit on my smooth-top stove. I tried the canning-ring method of keeping the jars off the bottom of the pan and it's really not something I wanted to continue doing. I found this rack on Amazon (the ONLY small rack available that I could find) and started using it.
It's a pretty straightforward piece of equipment. Nothing fancy. Probably designed a hundred years ago. The only drawback, and I would say it's a major one, is that the handles to pull the rack out of the water are too short. I end up scooping enough water out of the pot so I can grab the handles without burning myself. I'm thinking of buying some wire and jerry-rigging extensions to the handles.
