The two ovens are both usable. The wide coursing of the heating elements produced uniform heat in both, even when placing a baking sheet on the bottom rack position. But for this price, you darn well should get a few extra inches of heating rod. That said, the fancy extra features have turned me off. 1) The control buttons. There is an array of 9 and an array of four buttons for the upper oven on the left, and a symmetrical array of 4 and 9 for the lower oven on the right. The arrays of 4 are identical; that's good. But in the larger 9-button arrays, only the warm button is in the same place on the two arrays. The buttons you will typically use (bake button, oven light button, broil, etc) are in different places on the two arrays, and so even once you are familiar with the oven, you will be hunting and pecking. 2) The manual. It reads like a computer software manual ("for the pizza feature, select the pizza button"). It does not explain why you would want to select a "pizza feature" instead of just using "bake". Is it hotter? - No, the max temp is still 550F. What's the difference between the separate settings for fresh pizza or frozen? The manual says that "1" is for fresh, "2" is for frozen. Well, that certainly explains it to full intellectual satisfaction. Moving on to the slow cook settings; neither the manual nor the oven display reveals the temperature, but you are asked to select among four types of food and two heat levels. I used a calibrated oven and a long temperature probe to measure the temperature of 4 quarts of water, heating in a 5.5 qt ceramic slow-cook covered pot. When set to "stew" and "Lo" and "7 hr cook time", the water reached 202F by 2 hrs, full simmer of 207F at 2.5 hr, 203 F at 3 hrs, and then dropped slowly, dropping below 200F by 3.5 hr. I don't know of a cook , hoping to retain nutrients and proper food texture by a low temp slow-cooking method, who would choose to nearly boil the stew for over an hour. Using 2 quarts caused hours of frank boiling. When I tried the "beef" and "Hi" setting on 4 quarts of water, it reached 209F by 2 hr and dropped to 200F only by 3.5 hr. Any beef would be cardboard texture by then. Moving on to the "roast convection", this has nothing to do with roasting (which involves an oiled food in a uniform very hot oven). Instead, the top heating element comes on, which if not used very briefly, will char the topmost part of your otherwise evenly browned food. It is best used when one wants a broiled effect, but desires to keep the door closed. As long as GE won't engage the consumer by providing a mechanistic explanation of its dozens of settings, I would plan on using the ovens only in broil, bake, and convection modes.

Dimplex EWF-SS Sahara Electric Wall-Mounted Fireplace Review

Dimplex EWF-SS Sahara Electric Wall-Mounted Fireplace
Average Reviews:

Had high hopes this electric wall mounted fireplace would suit my needs in a remodeled room, however it did not. The fireplace is quite heavy and needs to be well secured to the wall in a number of places, including 2 studs. The mounting hardware is terribly cheap, as I inserted the drywall anchors into the wall and began to screw them in, the tip consistently broke off each one, leaving me with no anchors that were functional. I also must admit that online the flame looks like it's embedded in the sand BUT the sand is quite clearly fabric, like a nylon/polyester blend, it was VERY disappointing to find out it wasn't actually sand. I returned this fireplace due to the poor mounting hardware that proved to be quite poorly matched to the installation requirements.

Induction Cooker 1800 watts Review

Induction Cooker 1800 watts

Counter-top Induction Range1800 Watt - 120V
After reading many reviews on Induction Cookers, I chose this one A. Because of power, B. Because of price, and C. Because of it being sold by a Restaurant supply store. The unit is very attractive, solid to the touch, and materials seem to be of very high quality. The upfront digital control panel is very user friendly, and has the touch and feel of quality. The ceramic cook top will comfortably accommodate my Presto 8 qt pressure cooker down to the little 5 in. sauce pan I use to melt butter in. The unit is whisper quiet when operating, there is no buzzing sounds that I have read about in other units to include Major Brand Cook tops and Ranges. A couple of test I ran show the Cooker to be of a 10 Star rating. Using my electric range, large burner which used 2,800 Watts of power, using the 8 qt pressure cooker with 3 cups of cold water, it took the range 4 min. and 14 sec, to bring the pressure cooker up to full pressure. When the Induction cooker arrived I preformed the same test. The Induction Cooker at 1,800 Watts only took 3 min. 33 sec. to bring the pressure cooker up to full pressure. I am not a mathematician but I know somewhere in there is a savings. The next test was to see how cool the burner ran at the full 1,800 watts, so I placed a strip of plain white paper on the burner and repeated the first test. The paper remained as is, not a spot. When High Fidelity sound was invented I was very impressed. This Induction Cooker has impressed me even more than HiFi. I would recommend this unit to anyone, and everyone. After second unit arrived.
Second unit review:
After a month of testing I made the decision that Induction Cooking was the only way to fly and ordered a second unit.
With limited space in my kitchen it was necessary to make a modification to my electric range to accommodate the 2 Induction Cookers, this was done by ordering a custom cut cutting-board to place on top of the range after removing the 4 burners (see photo).
If you are a fan of fried foods as I am you'll love using the Induction Cooker. With the choice of using power setting from Temp or Watt setting it is possible achieve almost any desired cooking level. I said almost as when cooking that large pot of spaghetti sauce all day I was unable to find a setting that would simmer at a very low boil. I found a solution to this by placing 2 large CorningWare dinner plates on top of the Induction cooker and then placing the pot on the plates (see photo) This produced the perfect low simmer, also works great when doing a pot of bean soup. Fried foods come out perfectly using a setting of 212º, After bringing water to a boil on hi setting, pasta cooks well at 800 watt setting. That perfect pot of rice is achieved by using 2 ½ cups of water to 1 cup of rice. Bring water to a boil on hi setting, when water comes to a boil reduce heat to 212º and add rice then reduce heat again to 176º and place the lid on the pot, then set the timer for 20min. At the end of the cycle restart the cooker and lower the temp to 146º and set the timer for an additional 10min. At the end of the cycle, bingo you have the perfect pot of rice. I find the Induction cooker very versatile and a want to have item for every kitchen. As stated in my previous review the unit is very well made, very attractive, and blends in well in any decor. Recommended cookware is Stainless Steel with encapsulated aluminum bottoms, up to 11 inches. Cast Iron will work but heat distribution is not as good as the Stainless Steel, the same for Carbon Steel cookware, a diameter of 8 inches or less will work. Because there is no heat generated by the Induction Cooker, foods do not burn to the bottom of your cookware, or to the Induction Cooker making cleanup a breeze. After over a month of cooking on the Induction Cooker I have all pro's and no con's. I purchased my units at The WEBstaurant Store.

Garden Sun Tabletop Propane Heater - Hammered Silver (34.65") Review

Garden Sun Tabletop Propane Heater - Hammered Silver (34.65)

The assembly instructions must have been translated from another language because they did not make sense. I was still able to get the unit put together. It is much bigger than we thought. When on the table top, we could not feel any heat while sitting in our chairs. We moved the heater to the ground and then felt the heat. For the price, we decided it wasn't a big deal to put the heater on the ground next to the table. Unfortunately, the 1 lb propane tank only lasted about 20 minutes. We bought a second propane tank and the starter failed on the unit and could not get it lit again. I am in the process of returning it.

Cooktek MCD2500 MagnaWave Single Drop-In Induction Cooktop Review

Cooktek MCD2500 MagnaWave Single Drop-In Induction Cooktop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used a CookTek 1800 for 4 years. As a cook, I was unable to accomodate myself to an anemic electric range. By the way, the oven is excellent, even if the burners are slow and underpowered. The CookTek changed all that. It's gets realy hot! Being far more efficient than the plain old fashioned resitive burners in the stove makes the difference, even though my cooktop is of relatively low power being designed to use 120 volt outlets. It simmers like a dream, changes temperatures like a wizard, far faster than any other method of cooking. I swear by it. The company's warranty and repair procedures are very fair. I imagine they have to be since these units are designed for commercial use.
There are only two drawbacks. Both seem minor to me. First, like every other electrical appliance in the kitchen, induction cook tops are not perfectly reliable. Mine have failed twice over the last four years. Second, because of the mandatory cooling fan enclosed in the table top hob, it's a bit noisy.
One more advantage makes me willing to overlook these annoyances. I live in an apartment in California. When I want to grill, I simply take my CookTek onto the balcony, put it on a small table and top it with a heavy cast-iron grill. I love it!
