Dont buy this if you have a glass top stove, only buy the stainless steel version. As soon as we opened the package there was a warning telling us not to use this and when we called the company they said all of the kettles other than the stainless steel one can melt to your stove. I gave it a three because we never got to use it.

Water comes quickly to a boil in this 2-quart teakettle, which features sturdy steel construction for fast, even heating. Its beautiful porcelain enamel-coated exterior resists stains, cleans easily, and is durable enough to withstand daily use. In addition to the kettle's colorful exterior, its lid and handle are made of beautiful 18/10 stainless steel accented with color-coordinated soft silicone rubber to form a stay-cool handle with a confident grip. A strong, clear whistle indicates when the water's ready, and the lid removes for simple refilling or cleaning--the kettle should be washed by hand only using a mild cleanser. The teakettle measures 7 by 8 by 9 inches and carries a hassle-free replacement warranty for the first year and a limited lifetime warranty thereafter.

I usually love Oxo products, and own many different ones, from utensils to bowls to graters, etc. So when we registered for wedding gifts, we immediately looked at Oxo kettles, expecting the same good performance.
Unfortunately, this kettle has a major design flaw that is causing us to return it. About the tenth time we used the kettle, the knob came right off of the lid. When we inspected it, it is apparent that the knob was bound to detach eventually, and it cannot be reattached! Instead of being screwed on with metal, the knob is plastic throughout, and is just sort of 'stuck' onto the metal dowel that sticks up out of the lid. So there are no threads to keep it in place. With all the force that is needed to pull up on the lid to open the kettle for filling, the plastic just wears away (little black plastic shreds came off with the knob). And like I said, this was only the tenth time we'd used it.
The other three models (shown on the Oxo website) have a handle rather than a knob, so hopefully they are better designed. We will be returning this and looking at other brands.

Ok, if you want an unbreakable tea kettle, get something made out of stainless steel. On the other hand, if you want a reasonably durable and easy to clean tea kettle that heats your water without adding off flavors and that has a handle that stays cool, this is the one! Other models still have a metal lid and/or a metal or plastic whistle. I suppose stainless steel isn't too bad, but I prefer the purity of glass. As for the plastic tops, whistles, and handles; ick! Who wants plastic vapors in their tea? I suggest that you remove the silicone seal on the lid as well. You can't count on it holding the lid on when you pour anyway; it is much safer to remove the lid for before pouring so that the lid doesn't fall out and break. If you just remove the lid before you pour, you don't need the seal at all. The resulting quiet rattle lets you know the water is boiling without an annoying whistle. The further benefit is that the kettle is then 100% glass.
Will this kettle last forever? Probably not. Mine cracked after over 2 years of continuous heavy use (4 or more pots per day). Also, I frequently refilled it with cold water immediately after pouring out the boiling water. In a nutshell, I ABUSED this kettle for two years and that's why I'm buying another. But it was GREAT while it lasted. The handle stays cool and the water is pure and clean. This kettle is well worth the drawbacks for anyone serious about their tea!

I have had many kettles, the last two from Cuisinart (china made cheap)- they all leak, rust badly , or softer parts (whisttle, etc) melt on the gaz stove.
After a long research I settled on this "crystal clear" kettle but was so disappointed to see that the side of the kettle was ALL AROUND full of warnings in many languages. I thought it was absolutely ridiculous and ugly and I was planning to return it and gave a 2 rating.
(The edit does not allow me to change the rating which I would now put at 4, given what's out there)
Then I started on my search again moving way up in prices only to find out that the kettles I wanted are lined with tin, or nickel, etc and that none of that is entirely safe, or is it? After finding some info on the web I decided to stop my search for now.
So, I re-unpacked Clara and I am using it. The whisttle is not very loud unless the kettle is full but at least we are not absorbing all kinds of metals. So, I am keeping it. And with the steam during the boiling one does not see the writing on the side so, fine.
So hard to be a wise consumer.
UPDATE:
Clara got a crack on the spout and I had to decide whether to buy a new one but luckily I found a german made clear kettle at bedbathandbeyond that retails for $9.99. This is now my choice. I bought a second, pristine looking one to be used when I have visitors. Usage of a clear glass kettle on a gaz stove leads to marks that become difficult to clean overtime.

Clear as crystal, the Clara Water Kettle is made for those who appreciate transparency as much as design! The body and the handle of this stunning kettle are made of heat-resistant, borosilicate glass. The use of borosilicate glass in a water kettle testifies to BODUM’s sensitivity to the need for natural and non-reactivematerials, which are odor and taste free and do not taint water. The Clara Water Kettle has a capacity of 1.75 l (59 oz).The Clara also features a whistle that alerts users when water has reached its boiling point. The blue accent color used in the plastic grip, the lid’s silicone gasket and the whistle intensifies the impression of thewater’s purity during the boiling process. The Clara can be used with electric, ceramic or gas stoves (not induction). For microwave use, the lid and whistle need to be removed. All parts are dishwasher safe.

Métier Stainless Steel Whistling Tea Kettle Review

I received this kettle excited and put water in it right away. I liked that the whistle was on the lid and not the spout like many kettles out there. Very unique. So, I sat waiting to hear the whistle indicate my water was ready. Still waiting....I see steam.....but no whistle. (Even my husband said- Seeing all the steam, I think you water is ready.) I checked to see if the lid was on correctly and it was. (A kettle won't whistle unless the lid is entirely sealed) Then I wanted to see how it poured. Well, don't be fooled. The picture looks like (to me at least) the kettle flap on top of the spout opens when water approaches. Not the case. The person I talked to with customer service said:
"The kettle flap is not designed to open automatically during pouring. It is designed to be closed and has to be opened manually in order to trap the steam inside to let the kettle whistle during boiling. Only a light touch was required to open the flap on the spout and so there was no risk of injury even when the kettle is filled with boiling water."
Personally I don't want to have to flip the top up myself. The design and quality is great. Beautiful heavy stainless steel and sturdy handle. The lid is a bit awkward to lift off and on. Extremely well made. It is a bit heavy once you have water in it. Since the whistle didn't whistle. I returned the kettle.

Adagio Teas Glass Water Kettle Review

This was a good selection for me because I specifically did not want a whistling kettle, and I am tired of the decay and discoloration I've experienced with metal tea kettles. Other reviewers are right - it seems flimsy, especially the handle, so I set my electric stove setting on medium, not medium high, as I used to. It does seem to boil water more quickly, but that may just be my perception, since I could never actually see the water boiling in the metal tea kettles.
I'll use it as long as it lasts, but I am concerned about how easily it might break, especially the handle. Another negative - if you tip it all the way to empty the last drop of water, the cover falls off. If I were the manufacturer, I would offer an optional whistle, make the handle more substantial and design a more secure cover.

I was looking for a cute, inexpensive teapot that would simply heat water and look pretty sitting on the stove. This fit the bill. I love it. Its on the thin side so you have to use a care when washing to make sure it doesn't bang against the sink but other than that it's great. Sometimes I just pop a few bags in it and make a large pot of tea. Because it has a wide enough opening to get your hand in to clean it out... its more versatile then a whistle version and I like that I can see the water!

The temperature of the water can be determined by the size of the air bubbles. It is stove top safe (medium high heat) and dishwasher safe. A wire grid is included for electric elements and not necessary for glass or solid cook tops or gas heat. The stylish handle is made of wood.

I bought this kettle strictly for heating water for French press coffee making. Since this kettle is glass there is no chance of it imparting off flavors to the water (then the coffee). I got tired of my metal kettles becoming discolored and rusted, even with proper care. I love the idea of glass for coffee making and this kettle by Medelco is indispensable for coffee making!
It is also easy to clean (dishwasher safe) and looks wonderful. It holds 64 ounces of water when filled to the bottom of the rim, however DO NOT boil that much as it will erupt and shoot steaming water up out of the lid. I feel safe however boiling 50 to 55 ounces of water, which is more than enough for even the largest French presses.
I like to use a probe thermometer to monitor the water temp and stop at 200F, which is the ideal temperature for coffee brewing. This kettle does have a whistling lid that I use (I simply insert the thermometer into the whistling hole). The plastic handle is sturdy and remains cool (remember you can't use HIGH heat and expect the handle to stay cool, I like medium-high heat) to the touch and pouring is easy (the lid must be removed to pour). All the componets are thick and durable (especially the glass). With minimal care this kettle should last a lifetime.
All the features I wanted in a coffee kettle and add to that a fantastic price. Although inexpensive this kettle does not feel cheap. A wonderful value!

A modern take on the classic stovetop tea kettle, this uniquely designed item features a thermal-shock-resistant glass carafe that not only allows for viewing water as it boils, but that also helps ensure pure-tasting water--no chance of imparting off flavors to the water like with metal kettles. To use, simply fill with up to 12 cups of water, snap the lid into place, and place on the range to boil. The kettle's lab-quality borosilicate glass can be used on gas or electric stovetops; the included metal heat diffuser, shaped like a three-leaf clover, should always be placed between electric range coils and the glass carafe for safety. The kettle also provides a stay-cool lid that whistles to indicate when water has reached a full boil, and it removes easily with a slight pull of the small, curved handle when it's time to pour. Other highlights include a large heat-resistant phenolic handle that offers a secure grip, a drip-free spout for graceful serving, and a rugged design that cleans up easily by hand or in the dishwasher. Ideal for making tea, coffee, soup, and more, the 12-cup whistling kettle measures approximately 9 by 6 by 7-1/2 inches.
