First, for anyone wondering how this slow cooker (MSC-569) is different from the MSC-570 model, the only differences are the handles and lid; they are otherwise identical. That info is straight from the manufacturer (I asked).
Second, there's already a great review on this product (the MSC-570 verson), which I recommend anyone interested read. It can be found here:
Toastess Msc-570 Dgtl Slow Cooker 4qtAs for my own review, I've found this to be a fantastic model. What I like about it, as stated in the above linked review, is that it has a lower wattage heating element than models from other companies. The element is also constant output, rather than the variable output found in almost every other slow cooker on the market. This results in a much more even heating, and makes burning something you'll probably never need to worry about (assuming proper usage, of course).
The main concern I had before buying this unit was that the food would heat too slowly and potentially cause food-safety issues. I admit, the food does seem to heat rather slowly at first, but I've used this slow cooker on all sorts of meats, always on the low setting, and I've never had a problem. Just keep the lid closed and don't put anything frozen in there.
Also, something to note for slow cookers in general, "programmable" does NOT mean "delayed-start." A lot of people want a slow cooker that they can program to start cooking later, rather than right then. Manufacturers do not add this feature for safety reasons, as it's not really a good idea to put raw meat in a pot and tell the machine to let it sit at room temperature for several hours before cooking. They'd have lawsuits left and right from people leaving raw food in there for a day and making themselves sick.
Anyway, I'm really happy with my Toastess, and I would definitely recommend it to others.

Easily prepare soups, casseroles, pot roasts, curries, and more with this 5-quart round-shaped slow cooker. Simply add ingredients to the unit's crockery casserole, insert it in the cooker, set the timer, and choose from three heat settings--"low", "high", or "warm", which maintains a perfect serving temperature without overcooking. The unit will also switch over to keep-warm mode automatically once the timed cooking session has ended. The slow cooker's domed-shaped tempered-glass lid helps hold in the heat, allows condensation to drip back inside, and makes it possible to check on meals at a glance. Other highlights include a top-access digital control panel for comfortable reading and programming, stainless-steel loop carrying handles on the base, integrated side handles on the crockery casserole, and a loop handle on the lid for safe removal. Even more, the crockery casserole can go in the freezer or refrigerator for making meals ahead of time or for storing leftovers, as well as in the microwave, convection, or conventional oven for extra cooking options. Housed in beautiful stainless steel, the slow cooker measures approximately 15 by 10 by 15 inches.

This is my fourth one of this style of a West Bend slow cooker in 20 or so years. I started with a four quart model. I wore it out after about 6 years of using it at least 4 or 5 times a week all year (I was a working mother then). I bought a second four quart, and passed it on three years ago to my son when he got married. I still have the six quart I purchased as a replacement (I have hidden it from my son so I can have a spare if I need it). I love this new electronic model best of all. I love being able to set the timer and know it will switch to warm when done. The older models did not do that. The digital age has arrived for my FAVORITE slow cooker of all time!! I have given away the oval standard slow cooker I had (not a West Bend). There aren't many dishes I haven't tried in this slow cooker. This is the best West Bend model yet. This model is pricey for a slow cooker, but I would purchase another one, if I found a good sale price.

All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker Review

I work almost everyday (including Sundays) so this pot has been my life saver (or the dinner saver). My older one was 5qt. cool touch Rival. This All-Clad cooker cooks so much faster than my older one (the inside temperature of All-clad gets 230F in high setting). Ribs and 5 pound chicken done in 4 hours in high. If you want crispy chicken skin, let it cook for 6 hours. I highly recommend this product.
By the way I put small roasting rack when I roast chicken or ribs so that they don't stew in the dripping. Save the dripping broth. Put it in the fridge overnight, and get rid of the fat. And use it in your soup or stew, of course, this cooker can do that job just fine as well.

Updated Review: 4/17/2008
I've been using this slow cooker at least twice a week. Time to time I would hear "pop" sound either in the middle or toward the end of the cooking time. I couldn't figure out what was making this sound. One day my husband found cracks on the ceramic insert. They were fine cracks, but the cracks were in inside and outside. I contacted All-Clad. The service rep. told me to send a picture of the cracks. So I did. For several weeks I didn't hear anything from them. So I contacted them again. Apparently they didn't get my email with the pictures. So I sent them again. The next day I got a phone call from All-Clad that they would send me a new insert. It arrived a couple of days ago. I made a most wonderful chicken soup with leftover rottisserie chicken yesterday. I'm starting my love affair with this slow cooker again.

Update Review: 11/9/2009
I wish I could say that my slow cooker insert is still going strong. Unfortunately it isn't. I really tried to use them (I have gone through 3 inserts) as much as I could - until I could see the leak. I thought of getting a metal insert. However, it costs $200 NOT including shipping and handling. So I got the most modest Rival Slow Cooker: a 7-qt. with a turn dial. I've had it for 7 months. So far no cracks. It boils water quicker than All-Clad even in the low setting, but still no cracks. I had talked to an All-Clad rep about a possible defect in the ceramic insert, but she didn't seem to believe that theory. I wish I could change the rating to 2-star. It could have been 1-star, but I liked All-Clad's customer services.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional Comment: FYI the 2nd insert cracked within 2 hours in the high setting and the 3rd insert cracked in the low setting. After that I began to think maybe the inserts were defective. I did not abuse them. I only used as directed: high or low and went through the dishwasher. I'm using my humble and simple Rival cooker in the same way, and so far no cracks. I thought of getting the metal insert for the All-Clad Slow Cooker, but it was too expensive: $200 for the insert, over $50 for the metal lid (required for the metal insert) and $70 shipping and handling. Besides the reviews were not good for their non-stick metal insert. I'm very happy with my humble Rival 7 qt. Slow Cooker.

Update: 6/10/2010
My humble 7-qt Rival slow cooker is still going strong. I've been using it every week, and still no cracks so far. I have made roasts, soups, stews, and casseroles. I haven't made dessert yet. I've seen Sandra Lee "baking" dessert in her white slow cooker. I can't remember if it was Rival or not. But I'll try someday.

West Bend 84716 Versatility 6-Quart Oval Slo-Cooker Review

West Bend 84716 Versatility 6-Quart Oval Slo-Cooker

What I love about this product:
- Cooking times are accurate. If a recipe specifies 8 hours to cook a pot roast, that's how long it will take. I've never owned a slo-cooker that came close to this degree of accuracy, and I've owned many over the years!
- Ridiculously easy to clean (non-stick).
- The removeable cooking pot is very light-weight, and can be used in the oven, on the stove, or in the refrigerator, hence the term "versatility".
- 6 quart capacity and oval design accomodates most recipes and cuts of meat...it is ideal for me.
- I've cooked 15-20 meals of all types with this cooker and have NEVER had a problem with the results.
Why I could not give this product 5 stars:
- It does not have an on/off indicator (light), nor does it have an "off" setting - once you plug it in, it goes into a "warm" mode, even though the heat switch is turned all the way to the left.
- Speaking of switches, the one on this model appears (to me) to be a bit flimsy with no positive feedback as to whether it is on high or low or somewhere in between. No big deal, and for all I know it might last through a nuclear war, but if it ever breaks, the appliance will probably be rendered useless.
All in all, based on ease of cleaning, light-weight design, and of course consistency of results, this is the best slo-cooker I've ever owned and would, despite its price, strongly recommend this appliance to any and all interested in purchasing a slo-cooker.

This is the best small appliance I have ever had. I have had it 20 years or so. I cook everything in it: pot roasts, pork roasts, stew, pulled pork, beans, etc. I have purchased about 8 of them over the years for wedding gifts, college graduation gifts, Xmas, etc.

There are two main reasons I love this so much. One is the versitility of the heat control. I hate crockpots because all you get is low and high! Give me a break, who cooks like that?? These have settings from 1-5, almost as many as a stove burner. I can brown my stew or roast on 5 then turn it down to 3 or halfway between 3 & 4 or 4 depending on how long I want to be away from the house or want it to cook. The base doubles as a griddle by itself. Takes up very little counter and storage space. The pot goes into the oven or on the stove if you need or want it to. The pot and lid go into the dishwasher, although I ususally just give a quick wash with hot soapy water and wipe off the base. The other reason I love it is it is small and lightweight. No heavy monster crockpots to handle, try to lift full of food and then try and wash!
I have the older model of this cooker that is 6 quarts. At the time I purchased it you had the choice of 4 or 6 qt size. After 20 years I need to replace it, although it still works perfectly, the teflon pot lining is scratched and the teflon coating on the base(griddle) is flaking. But after 20 years of using it 3-5 times a week, its certainly held up wonderfully. I am now purchasing two more, one for me and one as a wedding gift! My only regret is that they no longer make the 6 quart in this model, only the 5 qt. I would recommend it without question!! Enjoy!

I don't know why the other reviewer rated this versatile slow cooker so badly? I have used mine for over a year for roasts, whole chickens, chili, soups, etc. and all are done to perfection on "low". Sounds to me like the other reviewer had a defective one. This slow cooker really IS versatile! I have the stainless steel model, not the black aluminum one. You can slow cook all day or speed things up by using medium or high temperature settings. I will replace mine immediately if it wears out...don't know what I would do without it! I use it almost every day.
